SkyAbis™
SkyAbis™ is a superior solution for both GSM and CDMA2000, lowering the cost of using satellites by up to 70% over SCPC links. SkyAbis transparently connects cells to the network in an economically efficient manner, while maintaining high quality voice and data traffic. SkyAbis can also be used in a shared hub environment, as part of the services provided by a satellite hub operator.
SkyAbis dynamically allocates satellite resources only when they are actually needed, statistically multiplexing bandwidth to dramatically reducing resources required by Abis signals. In addition, SkyAbis optimizes the traffic, such as idle frame suppression and discarding silence frames, thus reducing the amount of traffic transmitted on the satellite network.
Gilat Satellite backhaul technology for Ericsson GSM MiniSite
The MiniSite solution integrates a Gilat VSAT into an easy to deploy GSM Pico Site. This single integrated unit has low power consumption allowing solar power to be used. The new solution enables operators to cost-effectively expand coverage to remote areas which were not commercially viable until now.
The embedded VSAT is based on Gilat's high-performance SkyEdge II system with proven satellite backhaul technology. Satellite connectivity enables operators to provide GSM spot coverage in any remote location with lower CAPEX and OPEX costs. In addition to the efficiency benefits of Gilat's SkyEdge II system, the solution leverages Gilat's experience in providing advanced satellite communications solutions to rural communities, often including solar panel integration.
The GSM MiniSite solution incorporates advanced Abis Optimization, Abis over IP and Abis Local Connectivity. Gilat's DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) capabilities are key to achieving the savings that GSM Packet Abis provides. Gilat's SkyAbis cellular backhaul solution was certified by Ericsson as a key technology for GSM backhaul within Ericsson’s Radio Access Networks.
